Canadian Chapter of SPOOM Maryanne Szucky Our SPOOM tour will begin at 10:30 am on October 4, 2008 where Bonnie Kraus and her family operate the Welbeck Sawmill in Durham, Ontario. This family operated business is powered by a 9 foot overshot waterwheel and produces Ontario white cedar shingles. The mill also generates electricity for lighting and heating. Lunch will be at The Stone Tree Golf Club on Hwy 6 and 10. Cost is $15 per person. Wayne Hewitson operates the water-powered grist mill at this site known as Walter’s Falls Mill. He and his staff will showcase his mill with a historic walking tour of the mill and talk about the historic village in the area. It is a ½ hour drive to Walter’s Falls Mill from the Welbeck Sawmill with the SPOOM tour starting at 2:00pm. Discover in the area the Inglis Falls Conservation Area where you can view the remains of the 1862 Inglis Falls grist mill.
